Welcome to our web site!

The Hants West Band Parents Association formed about four years ago when there were substantial government cuts to our school budget. Recognizing that children were more academically inclined when they were involved in a Music Program motivated parents to keep the Band Program alive at Hant West Rural High School. The Band Parents Association strives to find practical means to support the Band Program and help further the musical education of our children.

We encourage parents and guardians to come to our monthly meetings with the Music Teacher in the Music Room. Please check the Calendar of Events for the next meeting.

What we do:

The Band Parents Association works as a team with the Music Teacher in the staging of Band Concerts throughout the school year. We set up a canteen to sell baking and refreshments during the concert and also sell tickets for a 50/50 draw.

Our Association has organized Music Workshops at Dorian Hall Music Academy in Windsor for students to attend on Saturdays. We also encourage our students to join the Community Orchestra, Four Seasons, which meets on Saturdays in Windsor.

We are in the process of buying gently used musical instruments to replace some of the elderly school-owned instruments (which break frequently). Our fund-raising efforts have let us purchase two trombones, an alto sax, a flute, two clarinets, and a badly needed tuba during the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 school years.

The Hants West 2nd Band Parents Association Newsletter is put out once a month, just before the monthly meeting. The newsletter keeps parents/guardians of Band Students informed of what's happening in the Music Program.

During the 2000/2001 school year our Association purchased Band Sweaters for students to wear during concerts. We are able to offer these sweaters to students below cost thanks to a generous donation from a Band Parent and our Association's fund raising efforts.

At the end of the school year the Band Parents Association offers bursaries to help Music students attend Band Camps during the summer. We have enabled students to attend the Acadia University Summer Music Camps and the Dorian Hall Music Camps.  During summer 2002 we will also be able to offer Summer Music Camp bursaries to grade six students from the three feeder school in our district who will be going into Band in grade seven.

In June 2002, the Hants West 2nd Band Parents Association will put out a new Policy & Procedures Booklet for the Band Program.  The Band Parents Association will be taking over registration for the Band Program in Fall 2002.  This booklet will outline registration and rental policies for students and their parents/guardians.

Please sign our guestbook to offer comments and join our mailing list.
